Compression control during hierarchical image compression

Abstract:
A new method of ensuring a given compression ratio for hierarchical image compression is proposed. The main idea of the method is to use different values of the control parameter (maximum error) for various scale levels of image representation and to correct the error value at the last level, depending on the amount of compressed data obtained.
