Abstract:
We present a small size optical system that produces a uniform light distribution in a required area. The system contains a slim collimator and a plate with a freeform lens array. We have derived the analytical equation for a freeform surface, which generates a uniform light distribution for three areas: a square, a rectangle, and a line. A method to illuminate complex-shape areas is presented and we investigate its partial case when the target area is a cross. We have simulated the optical system in Zemax and investigated the dependence of the freeform lens array’s performance on the incident beam divergence.
